fertility treatment after tubal tie.. is it possible??

I had a tubal tie about 3 yrs or so ago. Reasons partly didn't think i wanted children, secondly, didn't have much choice, as doctor took me off the pill due to risk of strokes, and the only option left was condoms or sterilization.

Anyway, to cut a long story short. Has anyone else been in the same boat, whereby they feel their sterilization was a mistake? And what's the chances of getting fertility treatment? Is it worth seeing my dr, or will it be a waste of time and a huge embarrasement?

Please help, I feel so upset by it.

I don't have any experience at all with this - but I'm guessing that if you're really feeling very upset by it, then it's got to at least be worth 10 minutes of your GP's time, to find out if there's anyway forward. What I can say, is it's certainly not something to be embarrassed about, and if it is genuinely something you very much want surely that's greater than any embarrassment you may (but shouldn't) feel.

Very best of luck - go for it!!!
  • Thank you, your sentiment is much appreciated.

I did speak with someone at NHS Direct who seemed to think a reversal would be possible. However, the GP would need to be satisfied that my partner and I met all the criteria. ie: stable relationship, stable mind that kind of thing.
  • well. visited my gp. Told her how I was feeling. The gp was very sympathetic, and has said she will look into all possibilities nhs and private treatment. This is a good start at least :)

So, anyone who is in the same boat.. there is hope out there.. you just gotta put your embaressment to 1 side and go talk to your gp.
  • How old are you thedevilmademedoit- if you don't mind me asking, I'd love to have my tubes tied, love it, but my Dr keeps coming out with the same old tired excuse, what if you change your mind, what if you end if with a man who wants kids- I cant get it thriough to him that I DO NOT WANT KIDS,and if I did, i'd adopt, there's so many unwanted children that deserve a chance.
Have you considered Fostering?? My mam & dad foster, after raising us 4 they must be nuts!!!They find it hugely rewarding, maybe you would too??
RIP Floyd - 19/04/09. I know i'll see you again my best friend forever.

I'm 34. I think my dr kinda reluctantly gave into me. I had been visiting the gp (for yrs) saying I never want kids ect. So, with all that and the fact she was refusing to give me the pill, I had a tubal tie.

However, 2/3 yrs later, I've had a dramatic change of heart. Not sure why, maybe the old body clock ticking away, I don't know. But the urge is there.
I gotta say, I really never ever wanted kids ever! I was forever panicking about being pregnant. It was one pregnancy test after another. I was manic with it looking back.

Anyway, if it's what you want,( a tubal tie that is), I'm sure constant hassle from you, your gp may just give in. It's just looking troublesome getting a reversal if you changed your mind. I mean it's not like just coming off the pill, it is supposed to be permanent. Guess I didn't realize how permanent.

Good luck with whatever you deceide

By the way. I don't want to foster or adopt to be honest, couldn't face it. Apologies to those who do adopt or foster, I admire you, but it's sadly not for me.
