Monitor out or range, no image on Imedia 1607, packard bell

Hi,
I have got Packard Bell Imedia 1607 and my screen doesn't seem to show anything. It doesn't just switch on however I can see processor is working fine.

I checked on Packard bell website and it is a known error with Imedia 1306 which is similiar to mine.

Situation

While booting Windows, the iMedia 1306 shows a blue error screen. Sometimes there is nothing on screen at all or the error "Monitor out of range" appears.
Details

The iMedia 1306 has a Santiago motherboard with on-board graphics.
Solution

To solve the issue, download and install Santiago BIOS Update (part number: 6960040200) to update the BIOS of the Santiago motherboard to version 1.60.

I have made a CD which has this Santiago BIOS update. I tried inserting the CD, but nothing happens because I can't see anything on the monitor.

I borrowed another monitor from my friend but same problem. Screen blank!

Please can anyone help to sort this problem out.

It will be really appreciated.

Thanks.

When you made the CD, did you make a bootable CD - if it isn't bootable you are going nowhere.
May also be worth downloading the Ubuntu live CD and burning a CD using the iso image. You could then boot off this (don't install), and check if the graphics, hard drive, etc are running ok.
  • When I made the CD, I made the CD containing the BIOS update from the packard bell website.

    I haven't got a bootable CD.

The Monitor only shows one thing and that is " No Signal ".

Do you think I should remove hard drive and graphics card and re insert them again?

All the cables seems connected properly..
  • sorry but i don't know how I could make the CD bootable?

But did the BIOS update come as an iso image, and have you burnt it as an image - not just copied the iso file to the CD.

Also, you will probably have to go into the BIOS and change the boot device priority to boot from the CD before the hard drive.

Ok, I have looked on the Packard Bell download site, and it looks like the download is a utility which will create a CD, so if you followed the instructions, the CD should be bootable. You will need to look at the boot order as I mentioned above.

There is also a recovery boot disk (CD) creator utility on the website which may prove useful - but be careful, you need to back up any important files before going this route - you could boot Ubuntu as above, and then copy your files to an external hard drive.
  • Boot in safe mode, It appears your screen resolution has been set incorrectly for the monitor you have.

    F8 to enter safe mode.
  • Hi,
I am unable to change the boot order or go into Safe Mode because the screen won't switch on.

    Any other ideas?
  • I think your motherboard graphics are shot! Can you borrow a suitable graphics card to try?
  • on board graphics is set out of range to your monitor e.g if your monitor is only 60hz and you set the hz over this in your graphics control panel to say 75-80hz and you continued this range for a few hours most likley you have burnt out your onboard graphics :) or your monitor or both. have you tried clearing the c_mos sometimes works (c_mos is a jumper next to battery on the mobo wich resets to original bios settings note you will have to renter the date and time if it works)
  • how can I clear the c-mos? also I tried finding the graphics card but unable to find it? I know they look like a network card but on this motherboard, the connection to the monitor is a small box which I think I can't remove?

How is this possible or am I doing it wrong?
