Is this a reasonable amount to pay for Gas and Electric?

Options
Hi I was previously paying £25 Electric and £34 gas every fortnight, this included arrears, I have now come out of arrears so I have rang to ask if I could pay any less, they advised me I should keep electric the same, however could reduce gas to £25, which means every month I will pay £50 Gas and £50 Electricity £100 in total? i know its winter but is this reasonable?

thanks

Yes, I pay £53 gas and £25 elec. The elec is low as there are only the 2 of us and we don't have many lights etc on..
Just thought, have you changed your bulbs to low energy ones, they're quite cheap now.

these days their isnt an average every house is different, but doesnt sound extreme
  • These are really strange and higher figure for me i m pay 70% of what you have mentioned
  • £55 electric & £25 gas, Now in credit after 1 year with EDF (Sainsbury's) earn nectar points as well.

    Better service than Brtish Gas.
  • Are you out or in during the day? I'm self-employed working from home, so in most of the day. My gas is £20 and electricity £23 a month, this covers my actual usage but I am rather frugal.

Various sites report the national average is £1,200 for power bills. So you're pretty much spot on! Unless you are living in a small flat or something in which case I'd imagaine it should be lower!!
  • Thanks for the replies,

I know the lady i spoke to said that if i lowered my electric or my gas anymore then I would prob end up in the same position so advised to me to keep it at £25 each, plus its coming upto winter. I we find out were over paying then we can lower the amount at a later date xx

  • i have recently moved to scottish & southern for my domestic supplies for both gas & electricity. at present my electricity dd is set at £20 a month, and my gas is at £30. it's a two bed first floor maisonette with two people living there. i suspect that my gas dd will probably have to go up. it might be worth reviewing your usage perhaps? i got into the habit of that a while ago, and check my meter readings every monday morning!
