Is this a con?

Hi all, i recently received a job offer from a company who had seen my c.v on monster.co.uk. However, i am extremely sceptical as to the legality of the job if it isnt a con in the first place. The job
" is a part-time job that consists of receiving payments from customers (through bank transfers) and then making further payments to our main office or to one of our regional affiliated departments, depending on the customer's location."

I know, sounds like a con already! However, i have looked at their website https://www.arecco-ltd.com and it all seems above board if not entirely wholesome. They are a Swiss based company and i assume deal with "repatriating" customer's money via agents in the U.K.

It would be greatly appreciated if some of you more knowledgeable members would be able to help me on this one! Many thanks

No don't do it! Let's face it, any reputable company could set up their own bank account to do this - why use yours?

I had something like that when I was looking for a job. I reported it to Monster and they got banned.

Yes, definitely a con. I received one of those emails, and I had never even heard of Monster, far less registered with them.

I believe what what some fraudesters may be looking for is what is called a "mule". Its used by farudesters to syphon money from peoples bank accounts but as they can't directly transfer the money abroad, they try to rope in a "mule" an unsuspecting third party to do it for them. Hope this helps

Yep, it's a means of money laundering and also has links to the Nigerian (and Russian) scamming rings...

With you acting as a representative for your "employers," a "client" (possibly a third party who is unaware of this payment being made from their account) sends you a payment, mostly by paper means. You then pay this into your bank account and it appears to be cleared and the money is credited to your account. As agreed with your "employer," you then send the majority of these funds to them via Western Union (highly likely form of transfer used as difficult to track and easy to scam) minus a percentage that you keep as commission for doing such a fine job.

A few weeks later, your bank then contacts you to advise that the payment cheque was actually a very good fake and therefore the full money amount that you thought had cleared (and subsequently was paid by the bank into your account) becomes a debit against your account, resulting in you actually owing the FULL amount (normally a fair few thousand) to your bank.

You contact your "employers" to query this situation and "DING DONG!," it would appear that their e-mail addresses no longer work and you cannot contact them again...

Youy end up with a severe debt with an unforgiving bank and may also possibly get some grief from your local Police in regards to cashing fraudulent cheques.

violetmva; be proactive in seeking a solution to this situation, get to your bank with copies of all of your e-mails, other related documents, etc., and see what they suggest.

    Hope that helps.
