Thanks. I am a little afraid of our solicitor!! I get tongue tied when i get her on the phone- a mixture of feeling she is timing each call and charging vast fees and feeling i am asking very basic questions of her!0

do like we did vkay. i wrote down a whole long list of questions i wanted answering after all you are paying the solicitor to act for you. however daft the questions might have sounded i needed peace of mind. we were with the solicitor for the best part of an hour by the time i had finished asking the questions and him explaining everything0

How is she charging you? A fixed fee for the purchase or by-the-hour? Normally with conveyancing it's a fixed fee, so you can keep her on the phone as long as you need.
On the other hand if you are paying by the hour....... ouch!0 -
It is a fixed fee which we don't pay if we don't complete.0

I too am in the middle of moving house. And am a bit confused by deposits. All our money is tied up in the mortgage and equity in the house. When I dealt with the bank to arrange the mortgage they asked us if the deposit was in the house - which it is. Do we still need to pay a 'cash' deposit on exchange.
The solicitor hasn't mentioned it yet, and I hadn't thought of it til I read this thread.0 -

Is a telegraphic transfer the same as a cheque? If not, can you just get the bank that has your money in, to write out a cheque for the solicitor if you don't have aq cheque book with the account?0

telegraphic transfers are sent by your bank to solicitors bank the minute you instruct them to do it.solicitors bank recieve the money sent immediatley0
