HSBC Direct Debit transfer service

Hi chaps
Advice required (even if the advice is to forget about it and move on):
I switched from A&L to HSBC for my banking current account. I used the HSBC switching service, which, on the merits of my signature, transfers my salary to be paid into my new HSBC account plus any DD's and SO's on my old bank account to my new HSBC account. 4 months later I have come to realise that 2 of the direct debits had not been transferred (Virgin Media & Capital One). On both my Virgin Media and Capital One accounts I have incurred late payment charges totalling about £70. I contacted HSBC to find out why the DD's were not transferred to be told that they made the requests to my creditors although both Virgin & Capital One failed to respond within the allocated 42 day period. HSBC failed to inform me that the direct debits hadn't been transferred. Virgin told me that the charges shall remains (£10) and Capital One have also told me that the charges (£60) will not be refunded. I have spent over an hour to the three companies and all three refuse to accept responsibility. HSBC say they are unable to provide proof that the DD transfer requests were made as they were completed by some automatic electronic process (AUDDIS?) and I shall have to weather this particular financial storm.
Hope someone can offer some advice.
Thanks
Lester
