Hey all,

We are off to York for a week very soon (2 x adults and 2 x toddlers). Does anyone have any:

a. advice where to visit

b. discount codes/vouchers for exhibits etc

Many thanks!

  • - Fudge Shop on High Petergate - they make the fudge in front of you and if you're lucky you might get free samples!
    - Bus tour of the various sites
    - Coffee Culture on Goodramgate does the most amazing hot chocolate
    - Bettys - possibly not to sit down in but to get cake/bread/nice tea/chocolate to take home
    - I'm not sure when they have the fairground on Parliament Square but that's very child friendly
    - Day trip to Scarborough to go on the beach if the weather's OK
    - National Rail Museum if the kids like trains
    - York Eye
    - Jorvik is a possibility although maybe a bit scary - depends on your kids. Alternatively Dig! at St Saviour's Church, but might be too old for them

York has lots of chain restaurants (Pizza Express et al) which are family friendly and have discounts.

I'll probably think of more later. *lived near York for seven years and has just finished three years of uni there*

Spurriergate for lunch - very toddler friendly (bibs and spoons, high chairs); plenty of space for buggies :D

Rowntree park for the play park and feeding the ducks. There's a nice cafe there, too.
