Problem with Talk Talk ADSL filter

Hi,

Having just moved house, when Talk Talk finally reconnected us, we found that the ADSL filter which plugs into the phone socket does not work. Hence when ever the landline rings, the broadband connected is dumped off line.

So I guess I need a new ADSL filter. We have had two from Talk Talk that have broken over the last eighteen months or so. On the assumption that I need one of these, do I have to source this from Talk Talk or can I get one on the high street? If the latter, do I need to obtain the correct specification before getting one?

Thanks.

You could pick one up at most places, e.g. Asda.

Make sure that every BT socket with a device/Sky box/phone, etc., connected is filtered - not just the one to which the modem/router connects.

You can get ADSL filters from anywhere, don't cost much, but you may notice a slight difference in performance between cheaper/more expensive ones, but this is by no means guaranteed. You don't have to get them from TT, I suspect the ones they will supply will be low quality and overpriced. Got any Maplins/local PC shops etc. near you ?? If so, you can just pop in and pick some up.

If you want a neater finish buy a replacement filtered faceplate. A little more expensive but they will filter you other extensions so you don't need further filters.

Last time I looked they were massively overpriced in PC World (hardly surprising, I know) but no there's no need to stick with Talk Talk ones.

Use some higher quality ones, like the ones from ADSL Nation, they make a huge difference, over the useless cheap bundled ones with routers. You certainly get what you pay for.

I replaced all ours with faceplates and saw a significant improvement.
  • Belated thanks for the responses (for some reason I wasn't subscribed to my own thread and was sitting in a sulk thinking I'd had no responses!)

I'll trundle down to Maplins after work and see what they have to say.

    Thanks again.
