Though could be a well used photo somewhere down the line if the wilsons don't offload soon!
Every time I hear about their wealth, and especailly with reference to the Sunday Times Rich List, I just think of the Emperor's New Clothes and in general how people are so gullible without thinking for themselves.
They have a portfolio of properties worth around £135 million and wait for it a debt to the banks of around £135 million.
Their wealth is purely imaginary!!
This little blip has saved their ar$%$es, but I expect to see 5~10% falls next year and again the year after. If they don't shift their portfolio soon they will be bankrupt.0 -
Never seen him on tv before, he comes accross as a complete moron. That interview eradicates any doubt that he is anything other than a very stupid man who was incredibly lucky that (a) the behaviour and timing of the housing market worked out perfectly for him and (b) the banks were stupid enough to take a huge risk in lending massive amounts of money to somebody with no real idea what they were doing.0

Even that book would have cost £195 ish from Amazon at the time, and probably more if ordering it direct from The Sunday Telegraph.
If I was worth inclusion in a Rich List I wouldn't be buying some expensive book to massage my own ego over, and doubt it could tell me too much about wealth generation in other sectors which I don't already know. Including one of the best ways of making really big money being in restructuring distressed assets bought at firesale prices in out-of-favour sectors which others overlook. Alas you usually need a lot of liquidity of your own to be able to do that on top of solid credit rating and have to be willing to wait to attack at the right time... being patient during the era the boom-heads overstretch themselves.0 -

It rather smacks of a kid cutting out the league table out of the table after 2 weeks and sticking it on the wall because Sunderland or Norwich or something are top.
PS I'm a Spurs fan (although never an Amstrad user) and I like Alan Sugar. He rescued Spurs from financial calamity IMO, did us a huge favour. I suppose you could think of him as the Thatcher of North London football ;-)0 -
The Wilsons have been making enemies in their own village by selling land to travellers because the council refused them planning permission to build on it.

The plot in that article sold at auction. Even I'm not going not going to blame the Wilsons for accepting the highest bid and taking the money at an open auction.
I might not have liked the scoffing "retirement village" swipe he made later, but if anything, those travellers have hideously overpaid for that land - with similar plots set to crash hard in value imo.0 -
It's their land and they can dispose of it in any way they want. It's the "if you don't give me planning permission I'm going to sell it to gypsies" attitude of Fergus that has probably upset neighbours in his own village.

Watching him, you can clearly understand exactly why pretty young ladies are gagging to sh4g rich older blokes.0

If all their tenants got secretly together and en masse decided to underpay their rent by one week's worth per month ... it'd really upset the cart. It'd take a number of months before any of them could be evicted for being 2 months late on the rent - and he could hardly take them ALL to court for eviction.
Make it 5 days light and the pain would drag out longer.0 -
