I have been given this as a gift and never used it before.
I am assuming it is a night cream and smells slightly clinical.
I would like to know what fellow MSE'S think and would be really greatful for any experiences and also other products tried.
My SIS raves about ED 8 hour cream.
Thanks in advance for helping me out.

Depends what you use it for. I wouldn't put it on my face, but it does help my eczema and is good for chapped hands or chapped feet. Depends on who its aimed at too- its not a organic natural type product- its basicly very intense petroleum jelly (like vaseline but much, much better!) very man made, but has its uses.0

My mother in-law loves the stuff. She uses it all winter on her hands. She used to get chapped hands but seems to be fine now

My DD's friend ( both early 20's!) told her about it, so she bought some and they both rave about it. They both use it on their faces. DD's skin on her face can occasionally get a touch of eczema/dry patches. (At one time the only beauty-type moisturiser she could tolerate was an aloe vera one we bought in Tenerife!).
She loves the 8 hour cream, massages it on at night and unusually for her (as she is a bit of a product junkie and refuses to be converted to my 'oil cleansing' with almond oil) obviously feels the benefits outweigh the smell.
ETA just asked DD and she said, "8 hour cream 'fixes' her skin......keeps it moisturised, helps with spots and smooths it".0 -
I use this always. Its not intended to be a full on moisturiser, but its brilliant for fixing dry bits, I use it on my lips and dry areas on my face or body, I use it on my dry heels and in the web of my fingers when they get dry, its also fantastic for cuticles.
It does smell a bit medicial I think, and i often use it on my lips and face before bed and my DH has often commented that I smell antiseptic!
And it is expensive but it does last ages. You can stand there and agonize........

I think it's coal tar based. It heals splits, cracks, chilblains, grazes, extreme dryness and can be used as lip gloss or a barrier cream. It lasts for ages and ages and ages without deteriorating and a tiny amount goes miles. In winter, it protects against windburn and in freezing temperatures it can mean the difference between looking/feeling good and being sore, split and looking frazzled.
Yes, it is a bit medicinal, but a lot of people who remember coal tar soap from years ago will find it quite reassuringly familiar.
Put it another way, if you decided you didn't like it, you will be surprised by the number of people that would put their hand up and say 'I'll take it!'I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
It's excellent for dry feet. I only use it occasionally but I put it on my feet at night and wear some ankle socks; in the morning I have lovely soft feet!0

I also use mine if im on holiday and get bitten by mozzies. Infact I swear by it, takes away the need to itch and heals them up much much quicker.
My mum uses hers on coldsores too and thinks its fab.0 -
I love this stuff, always have some in. I get chapped lips all year and this really does stop it and stays put for longer.
I also use it on spot marks as it seems to heal them faster. I also use it as an eyebrow tamer and glosser, as a shine to eyelids and over lipcolour when i'm going out
So as you can see get through quite a bit of it, but it does seem to last an age as you only need tiny amounts each time so quite cost effective.
These are the ingredients: Petrolatum 56.8%,Lanolin, Mineral Oil, Fragrance, Salicylic Acid, Propylparaben, Castor Oil, Corn Oil, Tocopherol, BHT, Iron Oxides and i think its the salicylic acid that heals faster as thats in a lot of acne and dandruff treatments.0 -
I agree with all the above posts, but its also really good for sunburn (I tested this a few summers ago by putting 8 hour cream on one burnt shoulder and aftersun on the other)
As a credit crunch alternative I have also started using Lucas Pawpaw ointment, its about £4.00 for 25g tube, and its maybe not quite as good as the 8 hour cream but its not too far off, smells better as well0
