The purpose of this thread is for you to post the location of new speed camera sites you have seen recently, to help warn others. If you could say whether it is a gatso (large yellow), monitron (small yellow), truvelo (forward facing - common in Southampton), red-speed (small-yellow at traffic lights) or SPECS average speed camera that would be great. Of course red-speed is the worst, especially if you have a juggernaught on your a#se.

This would be like buying a ferrari and them saying; oh well we found out the V8 broke the drive shafts so we just put this lawnmower engine in instead. 99% of the people wont tell the difference and we save money on drive shaft replacements!!!:rotfl:

The ones at traffic lights are red light runners only aren't they???

    And what did we miss???
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Yup, they do measure speed when activated by a vehicle going through the red light but only to prove if the vehicle was attempting to stop.

So if your "Attempting to stop" you dont get a Ticket?
  • No, thats the decision of the Police force who operate the camera. It's just usefull for the procecution to know what the vehicle was doing should the case get to trial.

Nope, your right about them measuring speed when activated on a red light but there are a small number of 'red speed' or speed on green cameras about that are both a speed and red light camera.

I don't see the great point of this thread- the partnership websites are kept much more up to date, as are paper maps than we'll ever manage to do.

I suppose someone had better suggest the alternative solution of not speeding or running red lights in the first place.

Some red light cameras have speed cameras integrated. So go over the speed limit past them through a green light = fine, go through red light at whatever speed = fine.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traffic_enforcement_camera#Fixed-speed_and_red_light_cameras

Wikipedia's not the best reference I know but it's the only one I can find at the moment. I'm sure I have read it from a more reliable source though.

Edit: Another, http://www.speedcamerasuk.com/traffic-light-camera.htm again not 100% reliable source.

Here we go the best source yet

    Speed on green safety cameras
Speed on Green safety cameras are positioned at traffic light junctions. As well as monitoring and enforcing non compliance with a red signal, they will also record speeding offences when vehicles travel in excess of the speed limit passing through the traffic lights.
