Telephone Troubles

Hi All,

I moved in to my new house today - and have spent most of the day on the phone (mobile!) to BT & Tesco.

The previous occupants had a BT Line but through Tesco Home Phone.
They've called and cancelled their account which was due to be cancelled on the 16th - But since Tesco cannot do their 'moving home' service for those occupants until the end of this month, it means I have their tesco phone line (working) until that date.

Is there anything I can do about this?

BT say they cannot take over the line since it's still tagged by Tesco.
Tesco won't say anything to me about it because I'm not the account holder

I looked into getting a new phone line installed but that looks like it will be about the same timescale as getting the existing line released by Tesco.

Sign up for a www.18185.co.uk account and use the 18185 on all your calls.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • That's great, but I need my own phone line before I can do that... !

If the previous tenants did not follow the correct homemover procedure, it is not your fault. If you need to make calls make calls. Obviously don't go overboard and ring internationally 24/7 or anything but important calls continue to make. After all they are proventing you from placing your connection order you might aswell get something out of it. :P
  • Exactly my thought - It's stopping me from getting Broadband installed in there before I move in which is important for me since I make my living in IT !
