lcd tv prices and picture quality

Options
I am looking for a 32" lcd tv with hd ready and all that but I don't know much about electrical goods. Some friends say I should buy sony because of picture quality but I think its too expensive. Does anyone know if the cheaper makes are just as good picture quality - although the cheapest I have found is £720 for a samsung. Someone help even with where I can get one cheap.

Firstly, you might want to get your thread renamed to something reflect the question you're asking.

You can find good info on the following thread:

Best idea is to put them side by side and view the same images, it is very subjective. Some of the really cheap screens are not HD ready or capable of switching to digital which will be a consideration soon for most of us.

avforums.com is having problems at the time I'm typing this but I would strongly advise you to have a look at the LCD forum on there before going further. I've pasted part of my post from the other thread below as I think it makes a very important point. It's very easy for any shop to set up two tv's with the same picture and make the want to sell look better than the other! For what it's worth I think Samsung are regarded as being good value sets but please read the comments and reports from the owners before making a short list.

"Looking round John Lewis or Comet is fine if you know for a fact that all the tv's are running from the same source and they have all been calibrated to give the optimum picture but I somehow think that's more than a bit unlikely!

If it were me I would like to make a shortlist and know the full details of each telly on my list before even setting foot inside a dealer. That way there less likely to try and flog you some discontinued model or some dodgy cheap rubbish!"

Also see the John Lewis price match thread on avforums. John Lewis give 5 year warrantys on all tellys and the thread will show you the best places to get them to price match.
