Job Centre!

I just really needed to vent this before i explode!!

I had a full time job as a Sales Assistant and i was happy there. I left college in 2006 as my father fell ill and i needed to become a full time carer for him along with my mum. I never got the qualification i wanted but my father was more imprortant. He died in 2007 and i waited till the start of 2008 and looked for a job to keep my car running. I am driven to get the qualifications i need in Health and Social care to become a midwife and its always been my ambition. I quit my job to start an Apprentice course at the local college, enrolled etc.. Got a letter saying they could not find me a placement due to the economical climate and they explaned i had to find my own. After searching for about 2 months now and with no luck i decided it was to time to consult help from the 'job centre'. I went in and they said unless i was claiming Job Seekers for 6 months they would not help me!!!!

I would like to know how they are called the bloody job centre and don't want you to find a job. I am appauled by this, especially when they are crying out of Midwifes and i am there willing to do any training needed for any amount of years and the people who are supposed to help dont!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

What did you expect the JCP to do, that you cannot do yourself?

I think they actually meant that if your registered as unemployed for 6 months or more there are extra schemes and jobs kept back for the long term unemployed. I guess it comes down to if you think your going to be unemployed for the next 6 months. You can still sign on even if your not entitled to any money but the only benefit is after 6 months your get the extra help.
Personally I would find some decent websites, get the local papers every week and keep checking the job centre website every day to see what new jobs come in and just mass apply for anything that interests you and eventually your get a job.

Can you get to speak to one of thr specialist advisers at the jobcentre-you usually have to make an appointment to see them,or use the one to one telephone service linked to the careers service. If you are signing on without receiving benefits and technically unemployed it may open more doors than not signing on at all
  • Shouldn't it be your local college you are venting at not for not finding you a placement, not the job centre?

My university expected me to find my own placement. You can not expect everything to be handed to you on a plate otherwise its a big shock when you have to find a job yourself.
  • sounds a bit daft that they cant help you, though they probably have targets to hit before doing something other then watching people sign on all day.

have you not thought about approaching your primary care trust to see if they can help you with what to do next?

It's very time consuming to find someone a placement and really wouldn't be feasible in the current situation.

I really don't see why you expect someone else to do this for you but then, I can't see why you're doing an "Apprentice" course when you should be doing Access. Have you had any careers guidance on any of this?
