Comet issue

Mmm no they don't. The item is 18 months old.
Under SOGA after 6 month the onus is on the consumer to produce evidence that the item had an inherent fault.
That said I agree with Keithp and If I had spent £900 on a laptop which had all the faults described I would be getting rather annoyed and thinking of start action via the small claims route as any reasonable person would expect it to last longer than it has
Question -- if Comet doesn't settle, and it ends up in the small claims court, do they still have the choice of a repair or a refund or a replacement? And if the answer is yes, and they chose to offer a partial refund, any idea how much the court would regard as a suitable amount? Would it be likely to be the purchase cost less a pro-rata amount for the time since purchase, as was suggested in another thread?
I'm thinking that the likely refund would be about the same as the cost of repair, so maybe Comet would choose the refund path -- especially if they're being told they have to maintain the Sony warranty on the components.
A partial refund might be better than a repair, from the OP's point of view.0
