parking notice

Dear All I only today received a parking notice whilst parked in the Morrisons carpark in Whitehaven. I was fully aware that parking was for 2 hours only and I fully support these rules. However I left the carpark and returned within the 2 hours as I often use the supermarket for work, meeting clients but I also use the supermarket and never leave my car and abuse the privelege. I have received a notice from a private ticket firm for £50 payable in 28 days or £25 if paid in 14 days! I feel this is too much and severe as I park regularly and have done for years and not once have I abused the rules. Martin recommends just ignoring it? They say on the ticket if not paid they will inform DVLC!? Has anyone any advice please? Kind Regards Harry.

Hi Harry, welcome to MSE!
Ignore it and all letters that follow, including scary ones from 'solicitors' and 'debt collectors'. Nothing will happen and your credit record won't be affected. It's not a real fine, you owe them nothing and a Court would not enforce their scam ticket (it won't go to Court though).
Why not read on a bit more than just Martin's article? Under your own post here in the link below, you will find hundreds of other posts. Read the ones that mention any Private Parking Company (PPC) and read & digest the uniformity of replies confirming to ignore:

Then relax and ignore the scammers.
hthPRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Almost the exact same thing happened to me at Morrison's in Barrow In Furness, with a Euro Car Parks ticket.
In brief:
* You don't have a fine, you have a request for payment.
* Legally, all the parking company is entitled to is compensation for the actual loss sufferered.
* In your case, this is going to be somewhere between minimal and non-existent.
* As such, it's not worth the parking company's while going to court.
* They'll send some zappy looking letters and threaten court action and damage to your credit rating. Ignore them. They're worthless.
* The only way your credit rating would be affected is by them taking you to court, winning and then you not paying the court-imposed penalty.0
