Help with Monitor Problem

Any suggestions as to what could be wrong. I have a 17" TFT Viewsonic screen, it flahses up no signal then the screen is blank, have tried with both a normal cable and DVI cable - still no luck. So at the moment I've got the PC working with our old 14" CRT screen and it works fine, although the screen image did cut out a couple of times but seems fine now.

Sounds like the video card is struggling to drive the 14" CRT monitor, let alone the 17" TFT one. What card is it? What resolution is it running on the CRT monitor? He huihuinga taangata he pukenga whakaaro – A meeting of people; a wellspring of ideas (Maori proverb)0

It's Fine on the !4", that's what I'm usuing just now.
The card is at 128MB ATI Sapphire ~Radeon 9800 Pro DDR-2 DVI.
The resolution is 1024 x 768 (small on the 14" but normally fine on the 17")0 -
sounds like the 17" is broke. Got any other pc's to test it with?0

So the TFT has worked previously on this card then? I thought we were dealing with a newly purchased screen that was being married to an existing computer. So both TFT and Radeon have been living hapily together up until now. Anything recently installed? Do you have the latest Catalyst drivers? Tried the TFT on another/friends PC?He huihuinga taangata he pukenga whakaaro – A meeting of people; a wellspring of ideas (Maori proverb)0

Yes they've been fine, although original had it connected with the DVI cable and the signal went (about 1 month ago) so switched it to the normal cable and it's worked find since untill tonight.
Nothing recently installed.
Haven't tried on another machine I've got an old PII 200Mhz on board graphics do you think it might be worth trying it on that?
Haven't updated the Catalyst drivers (would that just be done from a web site?)0 -
First thing to try is the TFT on another PC. From what you've told us so far, it really sounds like the TFT might be faulty. Yes, your P200 should drive the TFT with no problem.
Catalyst drivers are available at the ATI website. He huihuinga taangata he pukenga whakaaro – A meeting of people; a wellspring of ideas (Maori proverb)0 -
Ok I've connected the TFT to the old P11 200 PCand it works fine with the normal cable (can't try the dvi one)
And the old 14" CRT works fine with the New PC.
But the prob is the New TFT and NEW PC won't work together with either cable. ??? but they did previously.
I'll give them another try and see!
Update: Still no joy, it's got me baffled :-/0 -

For the new PC and TFT
0. Which OS are you using?
1. When you switch the machine on and it does its POST - does the screen show anything?
Assuming Windows-based OS and that the TFT won't display, switch off and restart with CRT attatched.
2. Boot into safe mode.
3. Check under, I think, system devices and see whats in Display - e.g. it might have Default Monitor - then remove all of these.
4. Also set the display to the lowest (VGA) resolution 640*480@60Hz
5. Now reboot and attatch the TFT
On reboot windows should detect a default monitor (the TFT).
Does windows display?0 -

The resolution is 1024 x 768, it's been set at that and not changed since I got the Machine in August.

Briefly flashes the word analogue or digital depending which cable is connected, then nothing it remains blank and goes into a standby mode.
