Have I got a Paypal refund.....or not?

I made a claim for an item not received.
Today I got an email from Paypal telling me that
" we were able to recover ££££ GBP, and this amount has been credited to you. Please allow five working days for this adjustment to be posted."

Then a couple of hours later, I got a "refund failed" email from Paypal saying that
" The refund sent by(name of seller) did not clear from the sender's bank. You have not received funds for this payment in your PayPal account.
Please contact seller regarding this refund."

I am not supposed to contact the seller as he is no longer registered on Ebay, and I had an Ebay alert about contacting that seller.

Furthermore, the case has been closed.

What's going on? Have I got a refund or not?

You need to phone paypal. Even if the seller has no money in the account you should get refunded for an ebay sale. Sometimes paypal need to reminded of there own rules. Tell them quoting the original case that you are covered by buyer protection even if the seller has no money. Just pressure them you'll get your refund

I have checked my paypal transactions and this is what I've found :
Original transaction : 19 sept refunded
    Related transactions :
19sept : charge from card completed
    9oct : Refund Removed
    16oct Reversal Completed
    16oct credit to card completed

So I gather that I was refunded and should see the money back in my account in a few days.
I still will keep an eye on it, just in case that glitch has done more damages than meet the eye.
I would like to know what's the difference between a refund and a reversal, maybe the second email was generated because of that.

I think it will go either onto the card you used if it was a credit card, or back into your bank account if it was a debit card

You'll be refunded the way you paid. So if you paid via credit card it'll go back there and if you paid from your PP account (including via BT) it'll go there

I think this means the seller tried to refund you, but because PayPal recovered it, the refund failed. This happened to me when the seller said they'd refunded me, but I couldn't see any mention of it so kept the case open. When I won the case I got my money, then a "refund failed" message.
