Hi killer cam - £1728 a year for a 3 bed house seems excessive, but I'm afraid that there is no easy answer and it takes a fair amount of homework just to understand the problem, before you can tackle it.
Firstly check whether your Gas meter is a Metric or Cubic Ft model - if it's metric each unit the meter records will be converted to app.11.2 Kw for charging on your bill, if it's a Cubic Ft meter each unit it records is coverted to app 31.5 Kw for charging - If these figues don't match you meter/bill, get onto AG & E immediately - If that's all OK then as a starting point, you need accurate annual consumption figures on both Gas & Elec that are broken down into seasonal use - If you haven't kept the bills, ask AG& E for copies.
With this under your belt you can make judgements as to just where and when all this money is being spent, and also trawl the Switchsites for a cheaper supplier
    Good Luck

I am also with Atlantic for both gas and electric, my bills went up to a ridiculous amount about 4 months ago so that I was paying well over £150 per month. I phoned up and spoke to a very helpful chap who explained that the rate per month was an estimate taken over the group of months that were the most expensive and also took into account some of the outstanding amount on the account at the time the estimate was taken. We discussed what the likely amount that I would actually use and worked out a realistic direct debit for both, it was about £20 lower on both bills. It is definately worth giving them a call.
