Getting meters swapped over from pre-paid

Evening all just come off the phone to Scottish power with regards to having the pre-paid gas and electric meters taken out of the flat I move into on Monday.
Been told that I'll have to pay around £100 for both to be swapped over OK not a problem. However I was then told they would want £150 per meter as a security for 12months
Or no security if I paid up front an amount of £1200 !!!!!!!
Are they just trying to rip the pish?

Last I heard Southern electric were changing prepay meters for free (if you switch to them obvioulsy) they may not be the cheapest supplier but it will work out cheaper than forking out to get the meter changed.
Be aware all companies run credit checks when changing from prepay meters too.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
Thanks I'll look into that my credit rating is good around the 950 mark so no reason why they are looking for it0

It may not be your credit rating, it may be the rating of the property you are moving into i.e previous tenants paying late or not at all. Had a problem with BT years ago when I moved into a rental property were the previous tenant owed 100s for overseas calls, they reduced the security deposit to £250 only because I had a good record with them from another property but it took a lot to get the figure reduced.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

They certainly are!! Many thanks indeed! Just spoke to them, no charge for swapping and no fixed contract period. The prices are comparable too!
Many thanks, Louise:money:0 -
