How do you know it's an accident?

Do you know who it was?
"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."

However when they realise their mistake they'll take the payment straight out of your account and you'll be paying interest on the new balance.

Personally I'd contact them. Contiune paying what would anyway. If the card had been cleared. Pay the cash into a savings account and then transfer it onto the card when the money has been taken. You won't pay interest retrospectively on while the balance is reduced.

Sooner or later they'll notice and contact Visa and it'll be tracked back and a debt of £1000 will go onto your card. Might be days, weeks or months.
I'd assume any interest you would have being charged had the credit not got wrongly applied *might* be added back on too.

What exactly do you mean by "Where you stand" ?

I don't know about all the legalities but morally, the money isn't yours, therefore contact your visa card company and inform them there is an error...if you or a relative didn't pay and some other poor person did in error, or the card company has made a mistake, we'd be jumping up and down demading justice and compensation, so do the right thing...they are probably already aware of it or will be soon.

I pay both my husband's card and my own off each month by phoning.......always hoping that it doesn't go astray like this! The one time my husband did it he paid his twice and mine not at all so my card was frozen due to non payment.

Once you have checked that no-one has intentionally paid it for you I would hope that you contact Visa so that the money will be returned to its owner.
