XP system restore

Sometimes system restore doesn`t seem to work.Also it will only show restore points during the current months.Any ideas please?

If you are referring to the random restore points that XP makes, these are only to get you out of mega poop, if you have a problem, and will basically just recover enough to get the system up and running again.
XP with SP2 is supposed to create a restore point automatically, whenever you install something, but it doesn't always do it.
It pays to make your own restore points at least once a week, and before you install any new software.( Not all software installations will create a restore point automatically)
