Planning permission for a cemetery!

It is dead quiet living near a cemetry...0

As others have said i would view it as a positive. If it is a field it could be sold and used to build cheap houses that get used by social landlords to less than neighbourly neighbours or even used to build industrial units with lorries arriving all day and night.
Instead you will have quiet serene neighbours with a peaceful view.0 -
TBH a cemetary wouldnt bother me , at least you know your neighbours are going to be quiet ....:)ONE HOUSE , DS+ DD Missymoo Living a day at a time and getting through this mess you have created. One day life will have no choice but to be nice to me :rotfl:0

Wouldn't bother me either - and I reckon this thread is probably quite representative, in that it wouldn't put off the majority of people. It might put off some, but you're better off telling them up front rather than wasting their time and yours.
One minor concern (but certainly not a deal-breaker) for me would be whether there's going to be a lot of construction noise and upheaval involved in the initial process of converting the paddock into a cemetery (landscaping etc). In theory there shouldn't be - it's just turning a field for horses into a field for corpses, after all - but it's something a buyer might want to ask about.0 -
Add me to the list of people who'd see it as a plus point! I've always thought it'd be great to live next to a graveyard, but then i love creepy things!! I'd be honest with your buyers, especially if any goths come to view your property!

Excellent thanks for all your views and comments (and the jokes - you missed the one about free flowers for the missus on our anniversary!). The vast majority don't see it as a problem and this does echo views of friends, family and neighbours. Yeah it might put a few people off and the point raised by JayZed is a good one about potential disruption during initial development so I'll get onto the local council to see what their plans are so I'm fully armed for this question. I'm going to be totally up front with the people who do view the property so that if/when they do put in an offer at least I know they're aware and won't end up pulling out further down the line. Job done! :rotfl:0

Why do they put high railings around cemetarys?
Most people are in no hurry to get in, and the residents are unlikely to want to get out.0 -
That's actually a good point. Permission for the cemetery was granted with certain 'conditions,' which include a 6' high fence along the southern border i.e. the one that runs in front of our house. They've agreed extra planting and landscaping for this area, but a fence is just plain silly. OK it stops those people who do want to get in from getting in, but there's already a hawthorn hedge so impossible to get in. A fence will take away the natural border that already screens it out.0
