Which current account? Halifax or HSBC

I currently have Halifax current account and haven't banked with anyone else in the past 20 years . I am now looking to move and hsbc seemed to be good, especially with their £50 offer at the moment.
I do most of my stuff online, need a cheque book and would like £100 arranged overdraft (I currently have a lot more:eek:but never use it:D)
What are people's opinion in general on hsbc?

In my opinion First Direct is better than HSBC if you've got £1500 to pay in each month. It's more efficient, has a free £250 overdraft and £100 transfer bonus if you're a new customer. Halifax offers free fivers, but you can get these by bouncing £1000 in and out of the current account each month using faster payments. Halifax also offer good deals on other products for current account holders for time to time. So you could open both.0

I really need a bank with a branch in my town....no First Direct
and according to the latest news, there is a chance my branch of halifax will close (its in one of their estate agency branches)
I'be got hsbc, natwest, Halifax, Lloyds (wouldn't touch with a barge pole) and Brittania (i think thats it)
Thanks for your replies
oh....is a credit check normally carried out for a current account?

Do you have a Reward account with Halifax? This will pay you £60 per year, just for paying in £1000 per month. I'm not sure what the interest rate is on HSBC's current account, but I bet you wouldn't be able to get more than this from them!
It's very easy to transfer to the Reward account, either by phone or in a branch, and takes about 10 seconds.0 -
