the person wants me to post back to him repair the motor

Was it advertised as having a faulty motor?
Presuming you bought this from ebay, then it's the buyer's responsibility to pay for return delivery (tracked). Some sellers will pay for return delivery. If they don't then I suggest you leave negative feedback at the end when you have a solution.
