mobilexchange review (be wary)

There's hardly anything on these forums about mobilexchange so I'm adding my review of my recent experience.
I was quoted £37 for my used Nokia 6120 Classic, but when they emailed upon receiving the phone they only offered £10!
Their explanation was
Faults (if any):
Not in full working order
phone lock
There's no mention on their website that if your phone is locked to a network (mine was to Three) it will reduce what they will pay. I assume that's what they mean. That's the only sense in which the phone was locked. It wasn't a blocked handset or anything like that. The only sense in which it wasn't fully working was that sound only came out of one of the 2 earpieces when you use headphones with it (they don't state in their email what wasn't working - I just knew that already). A 72% drop in valuation seems rather steep for that, assuming they even tested with earphones.
They say you can email them in 3 days if you are unhappy with the ammount offered, which I did, also asking why they don't tell us that a simlock will reduce the valuation and asking what they found not to be working.
They replied:
"Dear Customer
I do apologise that you are not satisfied with the amount agreed to be paid by MPX as stated on our terms and conditions we cannot return handsets but we can re check your handsets agreed amount and see if we can come to an agreement on a payment which you would be happy to accept.
Please let us know how you wish to proceed with this by reply, and we will look into this matter further for you
Kind regards
MPX"
As you can see, they didn't answer my questions.
I replied, accepting their offer to revalue the phone. It's important to realise that since they will not return the phone (it costs them time & money to value it), you have no position to bargain with for a better price.
They never even replied to my email but just paid me the £10 via BACS! I know from a completed items search on ebay that I could have got more than £10 or even £14 (assuming I get the 4GBP cashback) for the phone in this condition.
I have since seen many positive reviews of envirofone (who also send you a freepost padded envelope) and others. They were offering a lower price, but I'd have much more confidence of getting a higher offer and better customer services from them than from mobilexchange in future!
Maybe I was unlucky, but you should bear in mind the balance and quantity of reviews of the different firms when you choose - don't automatically go for the highest quote.
Good luck (you might need it!)

You can get far more selling phones on ebay but always set your seller preferences very tight and to UK only.0
