Advice on buying a new (used) car

    Then I would go for the earlier lower mileage car.

    By the time you have finished with it it will be where the 2006 car is now.

    Both your alternatives are 'high mileage' so both will have the benifits and pitfalls associated with that. Your annual mileage will keep them as 'high mileage for the year'.
  • Yeah, gotta think about resale value etc. Which is why I considered a higher mileage newer car. I suppose the mileage is always going to be key.

    Servicing is an issue.

    By my reckoning the 2004 Version should have had the main stuff done last year (Cam belt etc), the 2006 version falls next year in your ownership.

    Cost wise might be better off with an upto date service 04 than an 06.

    Thanks, that's interesting, will read that link now.

    My OH has an '04 with fairly low mileage, not sure whether his is due for a new cambelt? Will ask him, his dad is a mechanic, so things like that aren't a prob to sort :D

    Whatever car I get will need to have a good service record anyway ;)
  • Condition is far more important than age or mileage. If it looks like a heap, it will be a heap.
