One of my heels is sore and tender when i put pressure on it. Its come on since i played badminton last week altho i have been playing for many years now
i am due to play tonight and wonder if i should. I probably could manage it but I am wondering if it might make it worse?
Also I am thinking I wear thin soled shoes whether i should change my shoes. I think I will but will i be able to play tonight if i can manage it?
Thanks.

Don't play if you hvave an injury. If you think your shoes have contributed towards the injury then look at getting a decent pair of shoes that will support the lateral movements you're doing in badminton - try your local running shop, not your local sportswear store.;)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Just to second what ailuro2 says.
Def don't play tonight, all you will do is aggravate the injury even more.0 -
my dad is a fan of line dancing and always used to moan about his 'tender heel' problem, of course we thought it was funny. But these last few weeks i've had the same from wearing flat shoes, my nike air trainers are the most supportive but i feel a little scruffy in them, i'm pregnant so only really do the school run and i drive most of the way anyway. I have also bought myself some insoles from scholl for my nicer shoes/boots which seem to have helped, i notice if i'm lazy and don't swap the insoles into the shoes that day. I also find my feet ache in my slippers so have been wearing a pair of crocs around the house which are so comfy, don't worry i won't ever wear them in public.
I would rest and not play tonight, get yourself some insoles and maybe look at the kind of trainers you have.0 -
my sister got an inflamed achilles tendon and had to have a soft cast. perhaps you should stay off it for a week or so?0

I had this too. Doc said I had an inflamed achilles tendon too and that I should avoid flat shoes and get some shoe inserts to provide better 'suspension' for my heels. I found very cushioned trainers were ok but my usual ballet flats for work were agony and have been relegated to the wardrobe now.
Mine first flared up about 3 weeks ago and as I am normally a keen hiker I've been giving that a miss and I reckon I'm now about 80% better.
I wouldn't play tonight - Dr said to me that over straining it could lead to it rupturing - that was quite enough to make me behave!Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it!'0 -
I would sit this night out. Give your foot/feet a good soak.
In whatever you soak your feet in ad to warm to hot water...few cups of milk and some tea tree, peppermint or eucalyptus oil and let that sit for a few mins..then put your feet in (as soon as you can tolerate the heat) and as silly as it sounds it was suck out the soreness as well make your feet soft*If you like the advice I give...let me know by clicking the THANKS button*

Thanks all. Ive been to the doctors ( our new walk in one) and he said give it a rest, also given me some tablets and some exercises to do. Its basically wear and tear.
I think i will get some thicker soled shoes too.:footie:0 -
This sounds a bit like Plantar Fasciitis which I have now thankfully recovered from. I found it came on after a longish walk on a rocky road wearing not-very-supportive shoes. If I'm right, you've maybe strained this tendon which runs from the toes to the heel but the pain is felt in the heel. I didn't believe it either but eventually people worked on the tendon and I could then feel it there and not in the heel.
After months of physio, acupuncture, laser treatment etc etc (which all cost me a fortune), I got some mid-price insoles (made to measure are recommended but they cost at least £300 but the cheapy ones from Scholl do nothing) which supported the inside edge of my foot and had to wear really ugly shoes that would take the insoles. Everyone laughed at me and it took 10 months but eventually I realised that it didn't hurt any more. I am very careful now, don't wear flip flops or anything unsupportive for very long, keep using the insoles when I can and live in hope that it won't come back. HTH0 -

Do the exercises, honest they've worked wonders for me!
I do the calf muscle stretch while I'm cleaning my teeth, not a twinge!Signature removed for peace of mind0
