ARGHH!!!! Problems with my Capital one card

Can anyone offer me any advice....

I have a capital one card which I use for my online tesco shop each week and I always pay off more then the balance every month so I never get charged intrest on it , but now the stupid idiots at Paypal have taken 2 transactions off the card instead of out of my bank account (I don't know why I am waiting for then to get back to me) But in the meantime I have gone over my credit card limit by £2.32 and the have charged me £20 for the privialge , so now I am £22.32 overdrawn on it ! This is stupid!! I have had to transfer some more money from my bank just so I can afford to get this weeks shopping on it (I lread transfered funds to my card Friday but they haven't reached the card yet)

Help what can I do? is there anything I can say to capital one to make then give me it back? of should I just accept it?

thanks

Surely if it is "the stupid idiots at paypal" that has caused the error then it is those that you should "make them give me it back" and not your credit card company that from your story have done nothing wrong?

Contact paypal and get the money back off of them - have received refunds for bank charges from may companies after their errors with DDs etc.

Surely this would constitute as an unauthorised transation? When NTL took an unauthorised transation from my Tesco credit card, I rang Tesco and they recredited my account. Try ringing Capital one (they even have a freephone number) and have a chat with them, they're usually quite helpful.

Incidentally, when I was in Scotland a few years ago and used my Capital One credit card, my transaction was refused. I rang them to find out what had happened and apparantly the transaction was flagged by their fraud monitor as overseas/foreign use! :rotfl:

    Sharon,

As paypal is an automated system you must have given them your card details at some point and the computer is only following your instructions or their rules and regulations that you signed up to?

Capital 1 should waive the fee in the first incidence if you call and explain.

If you have had the card for more than 3 months you should also ask for a credit limit increase to prevent this happening in the future.

One final point, if your credit history is OK, try applying for a tesco credit card - you will earn much more benefits on your shopping than you currently get from Capital 1.

    Good luck.

On the paypal front, the unfortunate thing is they will have told you thats what they're going to do. Either they'll have given you a screen to confirm transferring money or will have been ebay fees. Either way it will have said the source of the money would be your card and you've clicked ok (for a purchase) or ignored the email for ebay fees.

It's an easy mistake to make (done it myself) as you just assume it'll be the bank but paypal prefer to charge cards for some reason. Need to check your paypal preferences to stop it happening again and place a nice call to capital one to explain whats happened and ask for leniancy on the first offence.

You should find capital will let you off the fee and paypal wont give a toss. Just have to learn from the mistake and try not to do it again.

Thanks everyone .... I called paypal yesterday and they couldn't give me a straight answer as to WHY it had been taken from my card , just kept saying well it could have been this reason or that reason but never actually saying WHY ! , oh but they did say they are not liable for any bank fees I incure, what a surprise , I also called capitalone yesterday and they wont let me off the fee, no matter how hard I try . I have now got £110 going into my capitalone card in teh next 2 days so I would have been overdrawn on my card by £2.32 for 3 days but they still charge me £20 , its madness!

They did say if paypal had admited they were wrong they coudl have refunded it but paypal wont do that ... I give up

Argue it with paypal (by letter is normally more effective) - if they are responsible for the error they are responsible for the charges their error caused in my opinion.

I agree with Astaroth, it's more effective to put your complaint in a letter to the customer service manager at Paypal, and cc Capital One.

When writing complaint letters, I find I get a much better response when I keep all emotion out of the letter (it only serves to get their backs up if it's sarcastic etc), I list only the facts and events leading up to my complaint, and I keep the tone polite but firm.

Hope you get this sorted soon.

Agree with Ghost - also include copy of your statement/ letter from the bank showing the charges as evidence that there have been costs. At the bottom of the letter put cc Capital One (so that Paypal realise that capital one are seeing the same information)
