Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I am having problems calling override providers and 1899 from my BT home line. I just get an engaged tone. Have BT barred override numbers? All other landline and non-telecom 0844 numbers seem to be working fine. Very strange......... Any help would be appreciated!!!:j

Me too. Can't seem to use any 0844 overrides atm...
//edit: working for me now.0 -
You have to take into account the fact that BBC2's Working Lunch programme on Thursday had a feature on override providers as a way of saving money and that heavily promoted 18185 (a sister company of 1899 and 18866). As a result, the engaged tone may well have resulted from too many people attempting to use them.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Yes, I appreciate that. It doesn't bode well for the future though!0

Hi folks,
I am not aware of any issues that would prevent you from using this service via a BT landline. Heinz may well be spot on here regarding the engaged tone however if the problem persists post back and I will check it out.
Cheers
