Replacing Ipod Battery

Just wondering if anyone has had the pleasure of changing their Ipod battery?
I bought one from eBay last week, and the battery seems to be on it's way out. Apple are charging £80+ to change it, other companies are charging about £50, but I can buy one for £7.49 incl tools needed and instructions.
Has anyone done this, and if so, any problems? It looks very straightforward, and I'm fairly useful with electronics, so I'll have no problems with the physical process. Just want to know if there's anything I should watch out for.

Maybe it nipped off for a quick sunshine break when you weren't looking
Good to know there were no major problems. Cheers.0 -
I changed the battery in my 3rd gen a few weeks ago too. Once the back is off its fairly easy. The tools do work eventually but I found it easier to use a very thin knife to start the process off. I didn't bend the back
I guess all the gen3 pods are getting old enough to need new batteries now?The quicker you fall behind, the longer you have to catch up...0 -
May be a silly Q, but how do you know what generation the Ipod/ Ipod mini etc is? I won mine and 90% of the time just use it on business trips but keep considering getting some sort of connection to use it in my car but they always say it they are compatible with X generation but I dont know which gen it isAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Mine's actually a 4th Gen Ipod, just reckon the guy I bought it from used it quite a bit. I seem to be getting about 6-7 hours use from a full charge, and it's just not enough.
As for identifying the model you have,
1G: Scroll wheel is an actual wheel, control buttons are actual buttons located around the scroll wheel.
2G: Resembles 1G, except scroll wheel is a touch pad. Control buttons are in the same location and are still actual buttons
3G: Slimmer, and control buttons are now 4 small touchpads located above the scroll wheel that light up with the backlight.
4G: Scroll wheel incorporates the four buttons from previous versions.0 -
Just a word of warning. I changed the battery on an old mini ipod and it died on me. I think I damaged it when I put it back together so be careful. Anyway, I sold it as broken/for parts on ebay as some people on there think they can fix these things.0

I had no problem changing both mine and the girlfriends mini ipod batteries, would def reccommend it rather then sending it away. THere are many different types of battery to look out for, the ones with the highest mha ratings will last the longest per charge.0
