Student accounts 2006/07

Probably a bit too early, but was wondering if you've come across any banks giving details of their student account offering for new students starting in September.

Particularly interested in sign-up incentives, overdraft limits, whether they throw in a credit card.

Anyone heard anything yet?

    coz ive been poorly, ive been part-time in teh past but im gonna go full-time in sept and im gonna get a loan for teh first time, do i put it in my bog-standard halifax acount or open a 'student acount'. im not gonna go over-drawn (i dont care what anyoen says i wont ive have some pretty lean times but im not in debt yet!!) so that doesnt bother me so what do i need?!

  • the HSBC, with whom i will be taking my student account, offer £1000 0% overdraft, a credit card, erm and if you are going abroad HSBC are very good as they are worldwide.

    oh a student d/c card (in addition to NUS), free travellers cheques. i would need to see my letter.

    Been on the phone to the press officers at the Big Four.

    Barclays, HSBC and Lloyds TSB will all be unveiling their accounts in a couple of weeks time. For Lloyds TSB you'll be able to apply from 17 July.

    Royal Bank of Scotland's student royalties account is open now. Discounts on books, CDs, DVDs, personal contents insurance. Interest free overdraft overdraft up to £2,500. You'll automatically qualify for the following:

    Year 1 - £1,250
    Year 2 - £1,400
    Year 3 - £1,600
    Year 4 - £1,800
    Year 5 - £2,000

    .. and need to apply if you want more.

    £500 limit credit card.
    20% discount off selected books, CDs, DVDs, videos and computer games
    25% discount off theatre and concert tickets in mainland UK
    10% discount off selected holidays and travel
