  • Aye, I understand.
    I'm now a size 10, under 10 stone
I've been clearing out clothes steadily as tghe weight reduced.
So, this month I've not put any extra into my debt and bought about £100 of new clothes - mostly out of new look and asda. I'm hoping that should be me for a while, lol.
Need to get back into the moneysaving now!!!

  • congratulations on the weight loss :j i am also losing weight and sent 99% of my stuff to the charity shops only the other month, what i do and always have done is buy cheap tshirts/tops from asda and then i costom make them, ie buy lace/t shirt transfers from ebay (some for as little as 50p) and then i never have anything that is the same as the shops, the best one i have done is a white shirt £2 for asda, a tshirt transfer £1 from ebay and a few snips and a little sewing = new top for only £3 and the best bit was seeing all my friends ask me where i brought it :)

Last year I went camping in the Lake District (only £4.25 a night on the Camping & Caravanning Club site!) and looked in the charity shops in Keswick . . . .WOW!!!!!
Mighty rich people live in that area, to be sure! I bought a gorgeous long skirt & top by Monsoon for £12.50, all greens and turquoise blue mixture - very attractive; a beautifully tailored lined jacket in a colour to match - £4; 3 skirts @ £2 each; 4 blouses/tops @ £2 each.
When I left the shop, I wandered further down the street and found a Monsoon shop; being inquisitive (as I certainly can't afford their prices) I nosed around and found the very outfit I had just bought from the charity shop - the skirt was £75 and the top was £65 !! Whoo-hoo!!
Since then I have waited until I'm in an 'up-market' area then used the charity shops to top up my wardrobe. It usually pays for my camping trips!
Hope you can do the same. Good luck.;)

Heres my suggestion - if you think its stupid just say so.

I too lost a lot of weight - but decided to buy only what I needed - ended up designing a capsule wardrobe cos most of us spend most of the time in the same few clothes anyways. You'd have to juggle this for a bloke I guess.

I Got - mostly from ebay and some supermarkets n sales

1 red trouser suit - with skirt too £8.00 ebay
1 blue trouser suit - with skirt too £12.00 ebay
1 white shirt £6.00 at Asda
1 Blue turtle neck knit £4.50 in charity shop
    2 coloured fitted t-shirts £3.00 from Primark
7 pairs blue tights £5.00 in Wooloworths clearance
20 Pairs beige tights £7.00 from Ebay
1 pair blue heels and blue flat shoes (MOdels Own - LOL) but nice leather ones
1 pair knee length fashion boots £12 from Ebay
1 Cream coat and scarf £7.00 from Ebay
5 scarves in wacky colours - plus scarf broock £5.00 charity shop
2 handbags (tan and navy) £7.00 charity shop
    1 jeans £6.00 charity shop
5 misc tops n sweaters £5.00 are boot

All in blue, red and cream colourways. So far I can make about 40 different looks with this little pile. Even better, because my job involves a lot of public speaking I always look different - and everythingfits into a teeny wheely trolley. All for £87.50 - less than I would have spent on one item before.

Off to choose something to wear for parents evening now - LOL

Wow Memorygirl - that's pretty impressive! Could you come round to my house and sort my wardrobe please?

We (not posh!) live in the (posh) lake district and hubby's parents live in (posh) Surrey. DH always need new suits and shirts for work - he has to look smart, but being an engineer always gets everything covered in oil no matter how careful he is!

He gets almost brand new things from charity shops - often designer labels, always at least Next or Gap. We'd never buy his work things new now.
C'est le ton qui fait la chanson
  • My OH gets his work shirts and ties from Matalan, can't remember off the top of my head how much they cost but were pretty reasonable and washed pretty well too - not much ironing he he.
Its nice to be important but more important to be nice!
