Expensive Side Effect of Money Saving!

There always has to be a grey lining to every silver cloud, doesn't there?
Since starting our money diet, we've not had the cash to buy so much junk food, hence we've been eating a lot more healthily.
This means that in the last couple of months both my wife and myself have lost around a stone each. That's coupled with about another stone each that we'd managed to lose prior to the Lightbulb moment (but due to the Ligthbulb moment we had decided to make do with the clothes we already had!)
Finally yesterday I put on a shirt and my wife said I looked ridiculous so we both decided to have a clearout of clothes that were too big...
End result - piles and piles (and piles) of clothes that no longer fit us. Bearing in mind that our clothes shopping was one of the reasons for the debt total you see below, there were a heck of a lot of clothes there.
We've actually been here before and due to being reckless we actually just took them all to a charity shop last time - luckily this time we are a bit more savvy and we will be getting some cash back through a combination of eBay and a local shop which buys decent quality nearly new clothes!
Anyway...
So after all that I now have two shirts which are suitable for work - both of which are thick and long sleeved. So I basically need to go and buy a whole new work wardrobe (minus trousers which were always on the small side but now fit nicely!)
Plus most of my causal clothes are now also huge and have to be chucked as well...
So I feel an expensive evening coming on... bah!!

Don't worry, we're not that daft this time!!
Anything worth having will be going on eBay or being taken to a local clothes exchange shop...!
I somehow doubt we'll make enough to replace my entire wardrobe though! ;-)Total Debt: Owe about £19,000 on credit cards plus £24,000 which is my half of joint loans.0 -
You could make it a challenge to yourself to get the clothing you actually NEED (not want) as cheaply as poss.
1. Go to the cheaper shops e.g. asda george, primark
2. Choose colours that go with everything (neutrals)
3. Choose styles that go with everything e.g. can be dressed up or dressed down
4. Ask yourself if you REALLY need something or just want it
Clothes are very expensive (especially the ones I like!) so I avoid buying new ones whenever I can. I often convince myself I need a new... but I give myself breathing space and decide I'd rather save the cash!

Unfortunately this isn't working for me! Still slightly plump! But, just a few days ago my partner put on a pair of jeans that he'd bought in the last few months, and they fell down!!! He had to find a belt to wear them with. He's been cycling to work, and he's not been allowed takeways, and has been bringing packed lunches to work. He must have lost a few lbs! I did think this was a downside to money saving. The jeans were only a few months old. What a waste of money!!0

Try your local charity shops (or some in a posh area near by!!) for new clothes to fit. I've lost some weight recently and have replaced about a third of my wardrobe with bargains from them. saturday i bought a m&s suit for work for £3.99, hardly worn and two blouses for £1.99 each to wear underneath. it takes patience to find the good stuff, butit well worth it. if you look at some of the hardly worn stuff you'll be selling on, just think thats what other poeple give away.

Well that is the idea, definitely! I think we will be going to Tesco and Asda and trying to avoid Next and Marks and Spencer... Hopefully we can manage to get me enough work shirts for as little as possible!

He he!! Well done on debt progress so far! thats fab! Know what you mean! I'm a bit of a fatty (size 22ish!) & have lost SO much in the last month that my trousers actually fell down yesterday as I was chatting to my neighbor & one of my work shirts is so big it looks ridiculous...problem with ebing s22 is that you can never get clothes in charity shops...will try ebay & will definately sell the trousers! Keep up the good work!!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0

I have the same problem, have gone down to a size 14 now, lost a stone & a half this year due to a combination of stress earlier in the year & eating more healthily now.
Only have a couple things that fit me properly now, keep trying to put off buying any more but I think I really must start looking for bargains with the summer coming.
Its so annoying though isn't it!
Well done on the progress so far0 -
You could sell your clothes on eBay and use the money that you make to buy new ones, I've managed to get some great bargains from eBay.
Again, echoing pozalina, Primark, Tesco and Asda are great for cheap clothes. Also you can sign up somewhere on the freebies thread and get money off vouchers on clothes from Tesco.
