i remember being 7 when my mum got me a new synthetic duvet... i was crying for over a week. i loved my lovely old feather duvet. if i was hot i could stand on the end of the bed and shake it so everything went to one end and the same worked if i was cold. i don't think i ever really forgave her it was my safe thing:o
i would love to have a feather duvet now but i cannot afford one...it's nice to be important but more important to be nice!! :kisses3:0 -
Mine were a wedding present, 2 duvets, a summer one and an autumn/spring one which clip together to make a winter one. They are goose down and I doubt very much I could ever afford to replace them hence Im trying my best to look after them !0

You've missed the "I always intend to take my summer/winter duvets to the launderette when I take them off the bed but I don't get round to it so stick it back on the bed the following season"
My aunt has a commercial washing machine so can wash single duvets - must check if she can do the doubles....Piglet

I wash the single duvets and pillows twice a year in my own machine, and tumble dry until nearly dry, and then leave to air for a day or so.
As for the double duvet, I replace it once a year, it is far cheaper than dry cleaning, I got a goose one this time in a sale for £19. Johnson cleaners wanted £20 to dry clean the old one.0 -
I tend to wash twice a year, unless the kids forget to get up for the loo and then they can be washed two, three times a week!sealed pot challange #572!Garden fund - £0!!:D£0/£10k0

I used to wash my single and double quilts every year but now have king size and forced it into machine, result belt broke and it cost £42 call out to have it replaced. :cool:0

I worry about dust-mite build-up on mine, since I have sinus issues, so I wash every 2-3 months, luckily our wm can fit a king size duvet.0

I'm with Tabbatha kitten on this one. I paid £90.00 for my double Duck Down Duvet and would not risk washing it. I would pay£18.00 to have it dry cleaned but don't know of a dry cleaners who collect and deliver, handy as I don't have a car.You live..You learn.:)0
