Expat relocating back to the UK rental advice required

Hi everyone,
I would just like some advice please, my partner and I are moving back to the UK from Spain the end of this month. We have been out of the country for 7 years. I have read information posted on this site and contacted different rental agencies in Plymouth were we are hoping to relocate. We would like to rent a property when we get back but as we have been out of the country for so long we will have no lending history so that means our credit score will not be great and no job referees etc. We are able to pay 6 months rent plus deposit up front to rent somewhere, and also my partners parents said they will act as guarantors if required. Do you think we will have a problem renting somewhere? The agencies do not seem to think it would be a problem, but it would be nice to hear from people who have been in a similar position. Any advice or information would be appreciated, many thanks in advance.

If you can afford to pay six month's rent in advance and provide a deposit I really can't see that you should have a problem. In fact, I can imagine that a fair number of landlords would welcome you with open arms and I really don't think you would need to come up with a guarantor at all although it would be handy to mention that you have one, if needed.
In the current market there are areas which are close to over-supply because a lot of owners are seeking to rent out their homes if they can't or won't sell in addition to normal, professional landlords so a lot are accepting offers and not all
are sticking out for whatever the asking-rent might be, so try and do some research before you accept whatever rents are being demanded by agents.
Good luck and welcome back!0 -
