Missed Payment

A thing I have never done in three years, I missed a payment on my MBNA card it was due on the 10th and ive just paid it today, I have just changed to the Halifax and my DD didnt get changed across in time eeek, So ive paid straight away but already have the £12 late fee charge on, but how bad will 1 missed payment hurt my credit score, I was hoping to apply for a new card in the new year and now im worried this one blemish on a perfect file will ruin my changes

Thanks
Matt

One missed payment in a sea of perfection will not harm your score that much
  • Thanks Cif,

I'm a natural born worrier, Im sat panakcing thinking all my other providers will see it and then start slahing my limits and I go on holiday next month and need some credit incase of emergency lol, then again I might be ok lol, it won't show on my credit file until next month anyway, because they have already updated it for this month lol

It may not even show on your credit file.... Usually only shows if you are more that 28days late i.e a new statement has been produced and you still haven't paid ;)

It will show on your file because their payments clearing system is automated, however if you write them a nice letter explaining what went wrong i'm sure they will remove it from your file especially if you've been a good customer.

It happened to me 6 months ago (i was 1 day late) but i nearly fainted when they wrote back saying they would remove the "1" from my credit file and replace it with a "0".

I agree with the other posters that one 1 doesn't really matter. Any lender worth his salt recognises that we go on holiday, fall asleep, have an ocassional hiccup: from my experience this hasn't adversly affected my credit rating or relationship with them at all.

I can't speak for every situation, obviously, but if I were you I wouldn't be worried at all!
