Buying a car on a credit card

Hi RuBy,
I appreciate your thanks for my post. :A
Sometimes you type something and you have no idea that it could, in any way offend someone, until they explain how they have interpreted it.
I feel terrible that my post was taken personally, I hope that Digitalphase will see how my post was intended, from my side and he/she will accept my apology.
Some more examples of light hearted ambiguity:
At the launch of a boat.....The Queen smashed a bottle of champagne against the hull and named the liner 'Queen of The Seas'. The crowd then cheered as she slid into the ocean.
A seamstress could claim 'I do not damage your clothes by using a machine to stitch them, as I do it by hand'. :rotfl:
On The Importance of Correct Punctuation- An English professor wrote the words, "woman without her man is a savage" on the blackboard and directed his students to punctuate it correctly.
The men wrote: "Woman, without her man, is a savage."
The women wrote: "Woman: without her, man is a savage." - Dear John: I want a man who knows what love is all about. You are generous, kind, thoughtful. People who are not like you admit to being useless and inferior. You have ruined me for other men. I yearn for you. I have no feelings whatsoever when we're apart. I can be forever happy--will you let me be yours? Gloria

Digitalphase,
Please accept my sincere apologies if I offended you, that was certainly not my intention.
Having read my comments again, I can see where you are coming from, but hopefully, you will also see that I did not intend it to be, in any way, personal.
In the first line of my post, I wished you 'Good Luck' and was trying to be friendly.
After that, it was just my misguided attempt at humour, based on taking the mickey out of my age and the fact that the younger generation are now taught at school to use calculators, rather than 'the old method of fingers and thumbs'. (I have no idea how old you are, so I was just being general).
I was also trying to be helpful in suggesting a way to work out the repayment figures manually, as you may not always have the moneysavingexpert calculator to hand.
Once again sorry if I came across the wrong way.
That's OK, I was a bit confused as you had said good luck as well :rotfl:
I realise you didn't mean it like that now
:D Thanks for the help, I hope I can find a suitable car soon

Hi Digitalphase,
Glad you can see how it was intended and I hope that I didn't spoil your day.
October is a good month to go car hunting as dealers have lots of trade-ins from the September new reg plate sales.
If you are using a dealer, let them know that you are ready to buy that day, but be prepared to walk away and let them chase you. Then see how far you can push them. Ask for a full years MOT, if the car is over, or near 3 years old. A new set of car mats. 12 months Road Tax, rather than 6 months. etc.
If they know that you are definately interested, it's amazing how far they can go.0 -
I put my 4 grand car on 2 credit cards then immediately signed up to two new credit cards with 0% till sept 2010 and March 2010.
I expect to have paid it off by sept next year by which point I will have only incurred the 2% fee on buying it on two cards (£80), a further 2% to transfer it to the 0% cards (£80).
Ive got the debt down to £1900 on my Virgin card which is 0% till Sept 2010. and £850 on the tesco card which is 0% till March 09. (bought the car March of this year)
So I may have to incur another transfer fee to another card if I dont have either or both of the cards paid off but by that point it will only be about 2% of £1000 (£20).
So all in all using 0% credit cards I reckon its going to have cost me no more than £200 in fees.
Perhaps you could go a similar juggle to save money.0 -

Thanks, it's my OH's card we're using so I presume he's thought about the best way to do it. He has an excellent credit score and very good with money/maths :rotfl:0
