needtoshop wrote: »that go go hamster stock checker is rubbish as said in stock argos =but not-won't use them again. Can't believe i am checking at 5 in morning! But my little girl, well age 5, has beenn awake over an hour with terrible chesty cough so we are all up now! Obviously hamsters don't come out at night............
I'm no expert on stockcheckers like the go go ones, but my understanding is that they automatically check numerous websites 24/7 and if the website lists something as in stock, then it picks it up and shows that stock is available / sends e mails (if that is one of its functions). Trouble is that most people if they are accessing their e mails at work, don't realise that their company's server, might only pick up e mails say every 15 mins, so by the time you get the e mail thru to your pc, the item is already out of stock. Also, home users like myself might have their Microsoft Outlook (or whatever) set to pick up e mails from their service provider's server every say 5 mins, so again, too late if others pick up their's more quickly (so for example in my case, the e mail could already be 4 mins 59 secs out of date before I realise I have it). That's no fault of the stock checking sites. Also, I've found that sometimes someone will post on here 'item in stock at ***'. When I check *** not a sniff of a hamster. We've worked out that a lot of the big retailers, must have a way of identifying where your PC's IP address is coming from in the country, and so although an item may be in stock in the North West and all the people in that region can see stock available, there may not be any stock in the North East, so nothing shows up. Also, prices can vary. Tesco have a 'price match' thing where they price match to LOCAL stores, so for example the other night, I could see hamsters as £9.97 on the website in my area, but others in some parts of the country had £9.95 displayed on their websites. Also with these stockcheckers, they just pick up if an item is in stock, not how many, so even if the company listed an item for a millisecond - due there only being one available, then the stock checkers would pick it up. A good example of this is when play.com playtraders list an item, which could then be gone before you have time to blink. Also, the stockcheckers cannot be linked to every site that could possibly hold stock, and also the way some of the websites are set up (from a technical perpective), the stockcheckers cannot read the information listed, so there could be stock on one website, that does not show up on any stockchecker. So all i'm saying is that don't give up on the stockcheckers, they are a useful tool, but also keep an eye on here because you can be sure that if anything does come up, the community here will report it...but obviously it is up to each individual to 'do their homework' and search all nooks and cranies to find the items they want too...:snow_laug Maximouse loves the build up to Christmas :santa2:0 -

Good Morning everyone - good luck this weekend with the elusive hammy hunt!! I have a hammy and a house and I think for now I am happy with that - a weekend with Grandma so no more for me during the next 2 days - OH in Amsterdam - so now think I won't worry about anything else unless I happen to come across it, Thanks so much to everyone who has helped - in particular TinaWina and Maxi -
