Being a seller on eBay?

I haven't sold anything on eBay since before they introduced the seller can't leave bad feedback thing. I have been a buyer and I find the seller is not very well protected.
What is your opinions on being a seller with eBay? Is it worth the hassle? What ways can you protect yourself?

  • I think you can leave bad feedback if the buyer does not pay for a item.
  • I sell on ebay and always send items now recorded delivery - if dont send this way and get a dodgy buyer, they can claim through paypal as "not received" item. Paypal then request tracking number and if not got, well can kiss good buy to your payment!

Sellers cannot leave negative or neutral feedback for a buyer ever, no matter what they have done.

I have been selling for 10 years on ebay and we have had to up our game, certainly and the good old days have gone, but it's still cheaper than owning a shop.
  • 99% of the time it is fine. The 1% is normally buyers who just try it on.

Personally I do the majority of my listings with the Best Offer option, when people make an offer I then check out their feedback before accepting, if they have a history of "problems" then I block them. It may cost me some sales but it has saved me some potential hassle as well.

My biggest gripe is buyers that expect instant delivery no matter what time of night they buy the item. The worst being slow delivery when they take 14 days to pay by cheque! Ahem rant over.

Yes you cant leave neg feedback for buyers, but that was a bit pointless anyway as you couldnt stop someone with bad feedback sniping anyway. A NPB is far more effective with 2 of those a buyer effectively bans themselves from ebay

As long as you set your seller preferences and understand how ebay and paypal work sellers are as well protected as they ever were.

Its like anything in life. If your not careful you can be ripped off and end up out of pocket. Depsite the problems with Ebay most stuff will sell for alot more than if you do it any other way.

It's almist better now as we sellers can now block any bidder with 2 or more strikes, so they effectively ban themselves from ebay.

Thats what I meant most sellers have there seller preferences to block bidders with two or more strikes (thats the default setting) So a couple of those and there is not much you can buy
