Washer/dryer problems-HELP!!!

ARRRGGGHHHHH!!!!

So it seems our house is trying to destroy all our appliances one by one!

This is our second(or is it third?)washing machine in four years.

Two nights ago, the socket the washer dryer is plugged into tripped out. Thought nothing of it, flicked the trip & put the dryer back on. At the end of the cycle, the clothes weren't dry so I thought I'd try again the next day.

Last night I tried to dry the clothes for three hours in total-still damp!

Tried a two hour cycle again this morning-definately not working!

Any experts have any idea what could be wrong & how much it may take to fix?

It's a Hotpoint WD440 1400 spin if that's any use.

Not sure it's still in warranty & we have no receipt, but may be a delivery note somewhere.

Advice appreciated!:D

So, found out that we may be covered by Hotpoint's 5 year parts guarantee, but would have to pay the engineer for labour.

Can anyone give me a rough guesstimate as to cost please?:D

labour is approx £100 if hotpoint do it, you get a 3 month whole appliance warranty with that i think . if you contact a local engineer they might be able to beat price.

 Was thinking(hoping)it would be no more than about £60!

Though if we get a local engineer out, would probably cost more than that with parts as well as labour...hmmmmmmmm..looks like the clothes will have to stay wet a little longer then!

Well, we called Hotpoint, they want £120 up front or £16.** per month for 10 months before they'll even come out!

Family member in the white goods trade thought this was way too much & put us in touch with a friend in the know.

He said it sounded like a thermal fuse which should be about £10 max, explained where it was & how to change it.

Bought one off ebay, it came today, OH fitted it &.........the machine still doesn't work!!!

So, call the 'friend in the know' again to see what else it could be or give in to Hotpoint & they're rip off charges?!:(
