Durham to Cardiff help!
Hi
I need to get to Cardiff from Durham on Saturday 24th October returning on 25th. Does anyone have any advice on cheapest possible train tickets?
As I've looked at flights, I could fly from Newcastle to Bristol for just short of £90 and then get a train to Cardiff, as flights directly to Cardiff are way out of my price range.
I have a Young Persons Railcard, I need to get there as soon as possible on the Saturday and leave to be back in Durham anytime before 11pm. As far as I can see, the price of a standard return is £77.35. Is there anything I can do to make this cheaper?
Thanks

Just incase you decide on this option, are you aware there is no train station at Bristol airport? You will have to pay for a bus into Bristol city centre and catch the onward train there.I could fly from Newcastle to Bristol for just short of £90 and then get a train to Cardiff
National Express fare is £68.60 but an 11 hour trip on the 24th would be my idea of hell.0 -
You could save a few pounds on that £77.35 fare.
24 Oct
Dep Durham 14:12, arr Cardiff 20:11. Advance Single =£31.35.
25 Oct
Dep Cardiff 16:45, arr Durham 22:41. Advance Single = £34.30.
So its £65.65 return with railcard.
Somewhat amazingly, that ticket for the return leg is First Class. (If you want Standard Class its £54.10)
