All fruits freeze well when pureed ;)
  • for writing on freezer bags / boxes invest in a Sharpie pen - bit expensive but it doesn't wear off in the freezer. i use one of these along with those takeaway containers, the ink washes off if I wash it as soon as I take it out of the freezer.

I freeze anything and everything! Some things might not be usable in their original state (for instance soft fruit is best pureed unless you like soggy fruit), watercress and spinach are best thrown into a soup or curry respectively, cheese is best used for cooking/grating (really hard to slice after freezing, goes crumbly), cottage cheese can be frozen if you intend to blend it and use it for cheesecake or quiche, sprouts are another funny one, I tend to cut them in half and then stir fry to defrost/cook them, if you boil them they end up soggy, think those are the main "odd" ones that I freeze. Any leftovers can be frozen (with the usual provisos about refreezing meat/fish), just think of readymeals!

I use cheap address labels (from poundland on a roll) and a permanent marker pen to keep track of what is what, and I make sure I put the date on too. I also use lots of old marg tubs (friends save them for me) for freezing single portions, means the kids can spot them easily when they "need" a readymeal!

As for organising the freezer I keep stuff in bags/boxes, means it's easier to lift stuff out and keep things together. I do keep intending to write down everything that is in the freezers but still haven't quite got round to it, but I do keep a sort of list in my head!
