Help - theory test ID

Hi,
I've just booked a cancellation theory test. I have a paper provisional licence so need a valid passport for ID. Just checked my passport and it ran out in August this year  I have no way of getting a new passport before tomorrow, so can anyone put my mind at rest that a passport is valid, even if it has expired. It does not specify Current, only valid. I'm terrified now :-(

Your passport is not valid but do you have a photo card licence ? if so you don't need a passport.

Reading again you say you only have a paper licence, how long have you been learning to drive! In that case as you can't really do anything I would just go along and hope they let you sit he test but accept that they probably won't. Then sort out a photocard licence and a new passport0 -
Just need to pop along, and pray.
Absurd state of affairs that it must be a passport. But crikey you must have been learning for years....0 -

Thanks Hintza - I think that's my only option really. I'm just hoping they just check ID details and don't really care it's two months out of date.
I got my licence when I was 17 and failed three tests which knocked my confidence so much that I can only go through with it again now i'm 30 years old! I need to pass for work (my driving is fine (I think)) so I have no choice!0 -

Let me put your mind at rest
If a passport has EXPIRED it is, by definition, INVALID "Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

Very helpful, thanks. I'm asking, in a nutshell, if an expired passport (of two months) can still be considered ID. After all, it's still me, I haven't changed in the past two months in any real way (although I do have two months extra of wrinkles).
So what does the DVLA mean by a 'current, valid passport' then on the licence side of things, yet only 'valid' on the theory test? They specify current and valid, and it's the dvla's own terminology in both cases. Hence why ask - it's not as clear cut as you make out.0 -
Why not contact the DSA ( not the DVLA ) and ask them, they are responsible for Driving Tests.

The OP has no option but to wing it. I certainly wouldn't be phoning anyone. If they say no then OP either has to sort out a new licence or a new passport.
OP has nothing to lose, by trying.0 -
If I were you I'd gather up all the utility bills and credit cards in your name that I could find and bring them all along with the expired passport, and do your best puppy dog eyes!
Good luck, hope they are reasonable about it and let you do the test.0 -
Is the passport photo still a reasonable likeness considering it's over 10 years old?0
