Paying off credit card with a debit card

Have an Argos Mastercard. Credit limit £2,000.
Bill dated 29/9/09 for £1,040. Paid the full balance by Debit Card (had to do it in two transactions for some daft reason!) on 8/10/09 and 9/10/09.
Shows on statement as being paid on those dates. Cool!
Spent £1030 since.
BUT my "available to spend" balance is only £138, when I would expect it to be £970.
So even though the bill is showing as paid, do you still have to wait 3-4 working days for the amount of corresponding credit to be released back to you to spend again?? ( a bit like waiting for a cheque to clear where it increases your balance immediately, but is not available to draw on for a few days?)
I really cannot reconcile where the £138 comes from!

Have you put a deposit down at a hotel?
Can you tell us the amounts paid by debit card for each transaction, as this might shed some light?0 -
Part of the mystery solved......
The difference between what credit I have available (£138) and what I think it should be (£970) is £832.
£832 is also the total of the last 6 transactions. But these form part of the £1,030!
I spoke to AM last night and they said it's because the merchants haven "taken" their money for these 6 transactions. But this can't be right surely, as it means they are double-counting it! £2,000 less £1,030 equals £970.!
Any thoughts?0 -
One week later, and this is still showing as £138.
I don't understand...........:(0
