Warning - 1&1 Internet

I am an Internet Consultant, and I have mentioned about this company in reply to a few previous posts on here, but I am hoping someone from the MSE team will now contact me direct, I have even sent a long message through your news/submission system, which I was somewhat annoyed I didn't even recieve a reply to - since this is a serious matter which is ongoing and has been affecting hundreds, if not thousands of consumers...

1&1 are routinely defrauding people for non-existant services. They are charging both for services that are not longer valid. Also, they cancel services that have been paid for, resulting in loss of website, email address services etc.

I had a number of domain names registered with them that I had paid for, and they were all suspended.

Hundreds of people have received debt collection threats and letters from various companies.

I am still suing them in county court, but am prepared to escalate this to the high court.

I am still unable to post links but search for 1and1 worst in Google, and you will see hundreds, thousands of complaints and stories....

If you google it there doesn't seem that many complaints. No more than any other internet provider anyway!

how strange, I have been with 1 & 1 for years, for domain names and never found them anything but friendly and helpful, even when directing me to the cancellation area. Perhaps you mean its to do with the other services they offer?

I must admit, I've never had a problem with them, they've been hosting a couple of domains for me for 2 years or so now, and I've found them rather helpful ... sorry to hear you've had a bad service.
  • probably an ex employee having a wee rant
    mortui non mordent
  • As others, I've used them for over three years now. I've only had one problem and that was sorted via their email help within half an hour
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical

What exactly does an Internet Consultant do?
I am still suing them in county court, but am prepared to escalate this to the high court..
Really? Then I am sure your solicitor will have advised you not to write about them in a public forum until after the case has been heard. Also I think you may want to ask him/her about the way our legal system works.

Well searching for that, do you really expect any good results to come back? Search for any large company and the word worst and you will find plenty of disgruntled posts in forums, blogs etc.

Personally I have a couple of websites and domains registered through 1&1 Internet and have never had cause to complain. However, I am sure that other people will have had problems with them, as is the case for any company with a huge customer base. Would you care to post some specifics about why you think they are operating illegally?
  • I've been with 1&1 for years and have never had any problems with them, I have a number of different domains hosted with them if I have a problem I message support and get a reply. I would recommend them.
  • With a civil action pending, OP, you'd be best advised to take note of bap98189's point about the wisdom of not going public with your greivances at this stage. You can't prejudice the outcome in the way that, say, a jury trial would be affected, but anyone who does invite comment on a public forum in circumstances such as this can inadvertently assist any defendant seeking to portray that legal action was motivated by malice.

Are you really expecting a personal reply?

Wake up and smell the roses. There are 1001 worse things than what 1 and 1 might or might not be doing. How many emails, personal messages, and submissions do you think the MSE team receive each day?

If you really want to complain then everyone who's connected to IT knows that the best avenue is to complain to BBC Watchdog and Tescos.

I left 1&1 due to abysmal server uptime years ago, but their staff were always helpful. Certainly not fraudulent.
