Thinking of taking my better half to Le Touquet for his birthday 2 nights on 4 December 09. Want to stay somewhere a bit special but not ridiculously pricey, go to nice restaurants, walk about, people watch, lunch by day etc. Is Le Touquet a good choice? Any recommendations for hotels/restaurants - is it good idea to take our car via Channel Tunnel. many thanks.

Le Touquet is a very nice place. This hotel is supposedly very good although I've never been there myself so can't say for sure:

I'd either take a car or hire one once there. I think there's an airport in Le Touquet.0 -
Yes Le Touquet is lovely. Not to sure what weather will be like in december. Stayed there twice during the rugby world cup 07. Having travelled by both ferry and tunnel, I would recommend the ferry to calais or even better Bolougne anyday of the week. There is a lot of hangin about with the tunnel.0

Many thanks for your advice. I will take a chance on the weather (can't be worse than here) but does anyone know whether things close down during early december.0

The weather will be much the same as Southern England in December, after all it's just a few miles away!
I've been to Le Touquet in mid-season and it was 90% open as it's a big golf destination. December isn't a golfing month though so it's worth investigating a little.0 -
We are hopefully going here next week, I know the restaurants are quite expensive but lovely. Have also heard that Etaples have good fish restaurants and Montreuil sur Mer is only 10 miles away and a lovely place to gander0

Le Touquet is quite modern and I think Boulogne and Montreil sur mer are prettier and a bit more compact and atmospheric. You will be able to walk around the old towns but idf you go to Le Touquet and visit L' Etaples you will have to drive or taxi.
In Bolougne the Ibis is opposite the gates to the old town and there is free parking. We ate at a fanastic restaurant just off the market square, It looked like someones front
room!
In Montreuil there are a number of restaurants around the market square alloffering a range of set menues at reasonable prices.0
