Taking aside the excellent benefit advice you are getting make a note to self - when your husband starts earning big money again start saving. It is always a good idea to have three months salary tucked away for exactly this purpose.
Are you looking for work as well? You might be able to get some work at a supermarket, for example.0 -
hi all thanks for the advice, we did save an amount hence the reason we have lasted since august where we are. unfortunately with the general outgoings, mortgage on my mums house, credit card bills and large rent on the house we need 4500 per month. i am happy to work and that will definately be the next step for us but there is no way i could earn the amount we need and it still wouldn't get topped up by tax credits. stupid thing is if we had seperated we would probably all be better off!
thanks hippychic we will get on to the benefits this morning and see how we get on with regards to my mums house. i know a job will come up for him at some stage very soon as it pretty much always does, its just never taken this long before so all we need is a bit of short term help without getting black marks against our credit records and after paying 3-4k a month in tax for the last 20 years i suppose we expected a little more help from the system than we are getting!!!!0 -
The problem with tax credits is they base it on last years income, as already said, and also, on a salary of £60k your earnings from April to August may well have already have exceeded the annual threshold for working tax credit.
However I think you should be entitled to child tax credit, even if it ends up being little more than the family element of £10 a week..?
You should be able to get free school meals for your school age child too.0
