Organic Home Made Dog Treats and Cakes

Hi guys

Am looking into ways of making a few extra pounds to help with my MFW.

Anyhoo, one idea my OH and I have is to make homemade organic dog treats and cakes to sell. We already make these for our two dogs (Newf and Saint) and I love cooking. I have a background in food prep (pubs and restaurants) so understand the hygiene needed etc.

What I don't know is if anyone would be interested in paying money?

Would be making cookies, cupcakes and bigger cakes i.e. carob and peanut butter or carrot and pecan. We would package accordingly and they would last a week in the frisge or up to 3 months in the freezer.

Any suggestions on price or whether it is even worth doing?

  • I had this idea a while ago, but found out you need insurance etc, incase you make a dog ill.

I think this is a great idea and if you picked the right venues you could make a good profit. Maybe if there is a local rescue near you that has a shop like RSPCA centres do you could sell them there splitting the profit? However you do need to look into it to make sure you get insurance and the proper registrations if you need it.
  • Thanks to you all - have not been able to get back on here sonce my first post - the joy of work.

Am gonna do some more research and hopefully get back to you all when I have worked out the specifics!!

As well as big treats, really good irresistably tasty but healthy small treats might appeal to those wh clicker train. To compare on size and price bracket I use Thrive treats (the freeze dried bits, not the little biscuits).
