Project Plan Rqd: Now NTL Phone/TV/BB. Want Sky HDTV/TalkTalk Phone + BB asap how?

Options
Don't want to lose broadband connectivity, don't want to have to stay with BT yonks but...

There has been no BT line at house for c. 5 years so need them to reinstall etc.

Am thinking:

Get BT out asap to re-install landline and get number ported from NTL. Continue with NTL TV and BB for 3 months (BT require this after reinstating phone, also sky won't give date for install unless you have a BT landline installed)

Then get TalkTalk Landline and broadband contract in place and cancel all remaining NTL services.

Am I missing a trick here, folks?

Thanks in advance

Er no. Sky require a fixed and operational telephone line. Cable or BT makes no difference.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Maybe. But NTL phone is not really that competitive and NTL phone with Sky services a bit odd...

If I want to ditch NTL (which I do) is there a better plan, Heinz?

I think your find that the line must be a BT one,or one originally supplied by BT ,and now supplied via BT Wholesale EG Talk Talk.

Free Sky/Sky+ box must be connected to a fixed telephone line for 12 months.

It used to be BT or BT wholesale customers only, but Sky will now accept cable phone customers as well.

Have you checked their website to see if you're in an area where they can offer free broadband otherwise you'll pay extra for it. That and depending on your broadband usage, TT may not be the best option.

You can use Sky with a cable landline (we did until we got rid of the expensive landline provider and chose BT line rental with the many, many other options availabe only with having a BT landline and paying BT for linerental only.
  • Yep... I'm covered. Really want $ky high def hence need to boot NTL to touch...

I don't know why you are doing all this but if it is just to get sky you can save yourself a lot of hassle. I've got NTL phone and broadband. Did have NTL TV.

One phonecall to sky and they arranged installation of Sky+ for the following week. Kept NTL phoneline and broadband, cancelled NTL TV. The only hitch will be the way NTL deliver the broadband, if its through the back of the set top box you will need to contact them to get an independent cable modem. Luckily we already had the modem from the start. (incidentally their BB service is far more reliable from the modem than the set top box).
